Speaker tips and best practices

TEST YOUR CONNECTION

Make sure that your webcam and microphone function correctly on Zoom and that you have a reliable internet connection.

LIMIT BACKGROUND NOISE AND DISTRACTIONS
Find a quiet space with limited or no background noise (e.g., no background conversations). Set your phone and other devices to silent or do not disturb to prevent notification sounds during the interview.

CHECK YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Since this will be a video interview, be aware of your surroundings and inform the people around you that you have your webcam on so they can be mindful. Limited people and background movements will keep from distracting everyone.

LIGHTING
Adjust your lighting and test different angles and positions to see which settings make you look best on screen. Avoid harsh shadows and being backlit instead, try to light your face evenly from all sides.

BODY LANGUAGE
Set your webcam at eye level. Position yourself appropriately, ensuring that your head, neck, and shoulders are visible and squarely facing the camera.
